In today’s team member spotlight, we delve into the experiences and insights of Amy Wilcoxson, VP of Team Development. In this conversation, Amy shares her journey from an unexpected start in the title and escrow industry to becoming a pivotal leader at Venture. Discover her thoughts on leadership, adaptability, and the unique culture that defines our team-focused company.
Can you share how you came to Venture and describe your current role?
I joined Venture in early 2022 when Mark Tidd reached out about forming a new, locally and team member-owned title company. As the VP of Team Development, my responsibilities span from recruiting, onboarding and retention to boosting team morale. I support the team by providing transactional support and helping with closings, ensuring everything runs smoothly and efficiently with the ultimate goal of providing a customer experience that is simple, predictable and personal.
What has your career journey in the title and escrow industry been like?
My career began unexpectedly in 2000 after a move from Wyoming left me searching for work outside the medical field. I started in a foreclosure department, where I learned about the Idaho foreclosure process, and key aspects of escrow and title operations. This foundational experience led me to roles such as title assistant, trust officer and eventually to leadership positions where I could develop and mentor others.
Why is a focus on team development so important at Venture?
Team development is a multifaceted and vital aspect of what we do at Venture. The concept for this role was born before we even had a company name or an office, highlighting its foundational importance. Leading the team isn't just about overseeing operations; it involves actively participating in the hiring and recruitment of new talent, ensuring they're a good fit for our community of professionals and have the potential to contribute positively. It's about creating an environment where creativity and enjoyment are encouraged, and people want to stay. This role carries significant responsibilities, including making tough, swift decisions and maintaining transparency with the team. While it has its fun moments, the role demands readiness to handle challenging situations and make hard choices for the benefit of the team and company.
What advice do you have for someone starting their venture in this industry?
The key is adaptability. Be prepared for change because our roles and needs can evolve quickly as the company grows. You might be hired as a delivery driver on day one, and the next, you might be needed in a completely different capacity, such as an escrow assistant. Embracing this adaptability is crucial for growth and success in our dynamic environment.
What is your favorite part of the day at Venture?
Mornings are my favorite. I love greeting the team, catching up on their lives, and sharing a laugh over coffee. It’s a wonderful way to start the day, bringing the office to life and setting a positive tone. This daily interaction is not just routine; it’s an essential part of our team culture, reinforcing the camaraderie and community that define Venture Title & Escrow.
