Q: Tell us about your background in title and escrow.
A: I've been in the title and escrow industry for over 20 years. My first job was at a centralized title plant, where I keyed in data from the county into a searchable program for title officers. From there, I became an assistant to several high-volume desks, which was fast-paced, and I learned a lot. I spent three years in the bank-owned division and closed hundreds of short sales, which was a fantastic learning experience. For the last 12 years, I've been an escrow officer and closed all sorts of transactions—from airplane hangars to mobile homes, residential and commercial properties to new construction. It's been a wild ride, and I've handled thousands of deals, each a little different from the last.
Q: Tell us a brief overview of your current role and responsibilities.
A: As an escrow officer, my primary responsibility is to ensure that every transaction goes smoothly from start to finish. I handle all the nitty-gritty details of the closing process, making sure everything is in order and everyone is on the same page.
But it’s not all paperwork and signatures. I like to think of myself as a “transaction magician.” I create a fun and informative experience for everyone involved, whether it’s their first or tenth time buying a home. I want to make dreams come true, one transaction at a time. Whether closing a deal for a new home or finalizing a commercial property sale, I want to make sure it is a great experience for everyone involved.
Q: What challenges have you faced in your role, and how did you overcome them?
A: Broken title issues are tricky to navigate, especially when they are unexpected. Another challenge I face is navigating each county’s individual set of rules and procedures. I’ve learned that I must be adaptable and agile in these scenarios. I also seek answers from trusted sources, consult with my title officer, or contact the county directly. Patience and persistence are essential. I stay focused, taking these challenges one step at a time, and keeping the transaction on track.
Q: What do you love about living and working in Boise?
A: I was born and raised in Boise, so working for a locally-owned company is important to me. I love connecting with clients who also grew up here and reminiscing about how Overland and Eagle used to be considered the “boonies.” It is pretty hilarious, considering how much the area has grown.
I love the hiking, fishing, and camping opportunities Idaho offers. There’s nothing like spending a weekend outdoors and enjoying the breathtaking scenery of this beautiful place we call home. I also strongly support local businesses, frequently choosing to spend my dollars here. I love being part of this community and contributing to its growth.
